FIH Champions Trophy | Australia crowned champions despite India's valiant fight

World Champions Australia have managed to secure their second consecutive Champions Trophy despite India putting up a valiant fight in the game. In a tough fight between India and Australia, India had to contend with the runners-up position after it failed to overpower Australia in the shoot-off.

Finalists from the last edition, India and Australia were caught in an intense fight for the FIH Champions Trophy title yesterday. However, India had to face disappointment as Australia effectively subdued their in the shoot-off, clinching the title for the second consecutive time. Australia defeated India 3-1 in the shoot-off as both the countries were at 1-1, within the regulation time.

With this victory, Australia has conquered its 15th Champions Trophy title. In the 24th minute of the game, Australia took lead by converting a penalty corner successfully while the Indians were able to draw the lead with Vivek Sagar Prasad’s field strike in the 42nd minute.

In the last edition as well the game had gone into the shoot-off to reach a conclusion. This year also India experienced a similar fate as Australia grabbed an edge in the shoot-off, claiming the title 3-1. Displaying a spectacular performance, Australia's goalkeeper Tyler Lovell defended three attempts to pilot the country towards the win.

Whereas India once again had to satisfy with the second position, the host Netherlands earned a bronze, defeating Argentina 2-0 in the third-place playoffs.
