Asian Games 2018 | Rani Rampal to lead the Indian women’s team in Indonesia
Striker Rani Rampal is slated to captain the Indian women’s hockey team for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games on Indonesia which is scheduled to start in the month of August. Rampal recently led the team on it’s tour to Spain where the visitors managed to level the series in the final match of the tour.
Rani burst into the international hockey scene way back in 2009 at the Champions Trophy tournament in Kazan, Russia, where the young striker powered India to a win by scoring 4 goals in the finals and was adjudged "The Top Goal Scorer" and the "Young Player of the Tournament."
The 23-year old has since been an important player for the team and was named the captain of 18-member Indian women’s hockey squad at the Asian Games that is to be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2. Rani, who had successfully captained India to their ninth women’s Asia Cup title victory in 2017 will be having experienced goalkeeper Savita has as the vice-captain of the team.
The Indian women’s hockey team have just returned from Spain where they played out a 2-2 series draw against a strong home team courtesy of some impressive displays by the Indian attackers. Rampal was at the pinnacle of these attacks and has been a long-standing leader in the Indian team.
