The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has confirmed that India is among the three nations who have presented their bids to host the next edition of the men’s World Cup. Hockey India, who has played host thrice previously, wants to conduct the event in the January 13 to 29, 2023 window.

As far as hosting the men’s edition of the Hockey World Cup is concerned, India, Belgium and Malaysia — with Malaysia being the sole nation to submit a bid for the women’s edition as well — are the nations that have sent across their bidding dossier. But both Belgium and Malaysia prefer to conduct the event in the July 1 to 17, 2022 window.

Meanwhile, for the women’s World Cup, the FIH confirmed in a press release that a total of five countries have already presented their bids. While European giants Germany, Spain and the Netherlands want to host the event during the July 1 to 17, 2022 window, Malaysia and New Zealand are keen to conduct the tournament in the January 13 to 29, 2023 window.

“It’s great to see that so many national associations and countries want to host our quadrennial flagship events. This is encouraging for the further growth of our sport,” FIH CEO Thierry Weil told PTI regarding the proceedings.

The Executive Board (EB) will take the final decision on both events — based on the recommendations made by an FIH Task Force — on November 8, 2019, when they meet in Lausanne. The Task Force will meet two days prior to thoroughly examine all the bids, before making their recommendation to the EB.
