The fortunes of Dabang Delhi are very similar to those of the Delhi Daredevils. In every season, they tried to feature strong and experienced faces but flattered to deceive. Now, with that baggage, they are gearing up for the 2017 Pro Kabaddi League.

The stage is all set for the fifth season of the Pro Kabaddi League and all the teams are ready for the challenge. A total of 12 teams will take part in this 3-month long tournament with Tamil Thalaivas, Gujarat Fortune Giants, Haryana Steelers and UP Yoddha participating for the first time.

Last season finish:

This year, Delhi based franchise Dabang Delhi would not want to repeat last year's misery as they finished last. In 2016, they played 14 matches and were able to win only one. They will be hoping for at least a good start this time around when they kick-start their campaign on July 29 against Jaipur Pink Panthers.

Delhi at the 2017 PKL auction:

In the player auction for the fifth edition of PKL, Radha Kapoor, the owner of the Dabang Delhi splashed out INR 213.3 lakhs to buy eight players. The team paid Rs. 44.5 lakh for Maharashtra born defender Bajirao Hodage, who played for Patna Pirates last season. They also spent Rs. 35.5 lakh on defender Nilesh Shinde, and Rs. 32 lakh more on adding Rohit Baliyan to their squad.

Nick Name: The Eagles

Defender Left Cover: Viraj Vishnu Landge, Sunil

All Rounders: Chethan S, Meraj Sheykh (C), Rupesh Tomar, Tapas Pal, Vishal, Yatharth

Key Players:

Meraj Sheykh - Dabang Delhi retained the Iranian all-rounder as a captain this season. The inspiration behind Iran's run to the final of the Kabaddi World Cup, he will bring a whole lot of experience into the side, and Delhi will be served well by structuring the team around him.

The Head Coach of Dabang Delhi KC, Ramesh Bhendigiri was all praise for his captain, saying, “Meraj Sheykh has been a strong asset to the team in the past seasons and I’m sure he will lead the team well again. He is a versatile player- one who raids like a fox and defends like a bull. He is extremely fit and skillful and with this new squad, I’m sure that he and the team will give all its fans reasons to cheer and rejoice through the league,” as reported by ANI.

Bajirao Hodage - Dabang Delhi paid a big amount for his services this season. The defender played a crucial role in Patna Pirates’ victory last season. Delhi team would be hoping for a similar kind of effort from the 35-year old defender.

Strengths

Dabang Delhi showed their desire to win this season trophy by retaining their captain, Meraj. This time, a completely new composition of new and young players should help the team perform better. Nilesh Shinde and Bajirao Hodage will give much required strength to the Eagles' defence, while Ravi Dalal, who has registered 168 raid points till now, will shape their attack along with Rohit Baliyan up front.

Weaknesses

There is no doubt that, on paper and on their day, the Eagles can push other teams right to the edge, but they have completely proven themselves to be paper tigers last year. They failed to convert their strengths into points, and that saw them end the season in last place. They have to learn from their previous performances and avoid errors in order to turn things around this season.
