Men's Doubles | Balaji/ Boppana vs Monfils/Roger-Vasselin

Veteran N Sriram Balaji and Rohan Boppana now remain India's sole hope in tennis. The men's doubles pairing were slated to kick off their campaign yesterday but persistent rain meant the game had to be delayed. It still remains to be seen when their game starts but either way it won't be easy given on the other side would be Gael Monfils, who has a career-high singles ranking of sixth. It will be an engrossing encounter all the same though and we'll be right here to cover the live action.

Men's Singles | Sumit Nagal (IND) 2-6, 6-2, 5-7 Corentin Moutet (FRA)

Sumit Nagal bows out of the single's draw in the first round!

Having taken the second set with some authority after losing the first one, the momentum was with the Indian and he capitalized by breaking Corentin Moutet immediately. However, the Frenchman responded in kind as the game dragged along to 5-5. Nagal thereafter buckled under pressure as two unforced errors paved the way for Moutet to break to love, and then sealed the match with another dominant game!

Men's Singles | Sumit Nagal (IND) 2-6, 6-2 Corentin Moutet (FRA)

UPDATE

Corentin Moutet took the first set comfortably with two breaks but the Indian stormed back in style to level the scores. It is all down to the third set now. The Frenchmen would fancy his chances but the Indian has shown he has the goods to pull off an upset here.

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) beats Ebden (AUS) 6-0, 6-1

Nole makes light work of his round one fixture but Ebden ensures there is something to remember him by!

The Australian fought to the bitter end, playing another one of his cross-court scintillating winners in the final game that made the occasional appearance throughout the match. But sparks of brilliance were never going to be enough to defeat a tennis machine! 52 minutes and two sets later, Djokovic sails through to round two!

27 Jul, 06:42

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) 5-1 Ebden* (AUS) [1-0]

Ebden's nightmare is almost over here. That's all there is to say at this point.

27 Jul, 06:41

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) 4-1 Ebden* (AUS) [1-0]

REJOICE THE LAND DOWN UNDER, THE BREAKTHROUGH HAS FINALLY ARRIVED!

Ok that might seem overdramatic given the scoreline but when Nole is in his element, you take what you get and run! Besides, anyone who has been following along knows Ebden deserved a game at least.

27 Jul, 06:37

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic* (SER) 4-0 Ebden (AUS) [1-0]

IT's JUST CRUEL AT THIS POINT!

Time and again the Djoker has offered hope in the match, doing so again by going 30-0 down, only to then win four straight points on demand making tennis look effortlessly easy!

27 Jul, 06:34

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) 3-0 Ebden* (AUS) [1-0]

EBDEN RISES FROM THE ASHES TO PUT ON A SHOW BUT NOLE SLAYS THE PHOENIX!

Wow, no one saw that coming!!! Ebden finally nails a winner to go 30-0 up, Nole drags it back to 30-40, and then begin the fireworks! The longest rally of the game has the Serb sliding around the court, allowing Ebden to set himself up for the best winner of the match so far -- a cross-court drive that kisses the outside of the baseline, forcing applause from his rival! He then further ups the ante with an ace, but a dogged Nole fights back with aggression of his own to eventually take the ninth consecutive game in the encounter!

27 Jul, 06:25

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic* (SER) 2-0 Ebden (AUS) [1-0]

Djokovic has found his rhythm and there's no stopping now!

That was metronomic, delightful and dominant! It would take no less than a miracle for Ebden to even sneak a game here, let alone anything more!

27 Jul, 06:24

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) 1-0 Ebden* (AUS) [1-0]

LUDICROUS AND DISDAINFUL FROM THE DJOKER!

Nole is simply toying with Ebden now! After the Aussie failed to execute a drop shot, the Serb gave him a lesson with one of his own, and then nonchalantly lobbed the ensuing response -- WHILE FACING AWAY FROM THE NET!!!

Ebden went to the under-arm serve as a last resort, only for Djokovic to quickly dismiss it with a quick rush to the net!

27 Jul, 06:19

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic* (SER) 6-0 Ebden (AUS)

SEVERAL CLASSES APART!

This is as brutal of a no-contest as no-contests get! A failed lob from Ebden, a drooping lob, and an ace to finish off a dominant set for Nole. The most amusing part? It feels like the Serb is only jsut beginning to warm-up!

27 Jul, 06:14

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) 5-0 Ebden (AUS)*

Djokovic is hardly breaking a sweat here!

Ebden has tried everything out of desperation, from serve and volleys to ludicrous drop shots -- all for nothing. Even when he did manage to make Nole scramble, the Serb slid across the court to play a gorgeous winner down the line and now has the opportunity to serve for the set!

27 Jul, 06:11

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic* (SER) 4-0 Ebden (AUS)

A clean sweep and this is already looking like a mere formality!

Djokovic's ability to hit the baseline with unnerving accuracy sets him a class apart from most tennis players in the world and Ebden is turning out to be no different. You almost feel sorry for him as the Serb holds his serve to love!

27 Jul, 06:06

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) 3-0 Ebden* (AUS)

It's going to be a long day for Ebden here! Or at least will feel like one even if the match doesn't last very long. He just can't keep up with the relentlessness of Nole's precision and power. The Aussie is being dragged all around the court, and two clinical winners from Djokovic saw him take the game from 15-30 down.

27 Jul, 06:02

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic* (SER) 2-0 Ebden (AUS)

Ebden fights back but Djokovic simply too good!

A long rally to start the game but Nole held steady before Ebden's unforced error cost him the point. The Australian did not make life easy for his fancied opponent though, defending tooth and nail to drag the game to deuce. However, a series of attacking shots from Djokovic handed him the advantage and the Serb sealed the game with a resounding winner from the net.

27 Jul, 05:58

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) 1-0 Ebden* (AUS)

DJOKOVIC has a break already!

What a sinking feeling it must be for Matthew Ebden. The Australian began in high spirits after pounding a volley past Novak Djokovic stranded at the nets but the Serbian responded in style, finishing off rallies efficiently to take an early lead in the first set.

27 Jul, 05:56

Men's Singles First Round | Djokovic (SER) vs Ebden (AUS)

The Men's Singles section kicks off with top-seed Novak Djokovic taking on the former men's double's world number one Matthew Ebden. An Olympic Gold has eluded the Serbian throughout his glittering career but the 24-time Grand Slam winner will be hoping the fifth time's the charm.
