ISSF World Shotgun Championship | Ankur Mittal wins silver at men's double trap event
India’s Ankur Mittal has won a silver in the ongoing World Shotgun Championship in Moscow scoring 66 points at men's double trap event before losing to Vitaly Fokeev. A silver medal by young Ahvar Rizvi in the junior individual category has now taken India to the fourth position in the Championship.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games finalist has looked sharp this year as the shooter managed to land a silver medal yet again after his achievement in the World Championships. Ankur Mittal has ended the qualifiers from the first position with 145 points.
Mittal scored 66 points in the men’s event and brilliantly maintained the lead till the final four shots before Russia's Vitaly Fokeev got the better of him and won the event with 68 points. Apart from Mittal, Sangram Dahiya, with 135 hits, finished in 20th place and Md. Asab in the 23rd with 133 hits, thus ending the qualifying round from the fifth spot in the Team category.
India finished five points adrift of Italy, who won Gold with 418 points. Another noteworthy mention should be of 17-year-old Ahvar Rizvi, who finished with 66 out of 80 targets in the individual final of junior category.
