After shooting was dropped from the 2022 Commonwealth Games programme, Indian shooter Anjum Moudgil has mentioned that leaving the sport from the Games is not good for the sport. Moudgil has also added that the issue was going on for some time in the past and is a big blow for India.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has made it clear on Friday that shooting will not be a part of the upcoming Commonwealth Games which is scheduled to be held in Birmingham in 2022. The Indian sports lovers will be disappointed with the decision as Indian shooters bagged as many as 16 medals, including seven gold at the Gold Coast Games last year.

Moudgil, who also clinched a silver in 50m air rifle 3 positions category last year, has opened up saying that the decision is not good for the sport as shooting at the CWG has always been important for India.

"This issue has been going on for quite some time. It is not good because this is a very big event for Indian shooting. We have no choice but to go with (the CGF's) decision. The NRAI (National Rifle Association of India) did whatever they could to prevent this but there is little one can do once the higher authorities have made their minds. They have their reasons which is why this decision has been made," Moudgil told IANS.

Meanwhile, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has threatened to boycott the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after the decision was taken yesterday. India’s former Sports Minister and Olympics silver medallist in shooting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore had earlier urged the CGF president to ensure shooting remains a part of the 2022 edition.
