Asian Airgun Championships | One gold and two silver medals for India on Day 2

Shreya Agrawal and Yash Vardhan clinched a gold medal in the junior 10m air rifle mixed team event at the Asian Airgun Championships where Mehuli Ghosh and Keval Prajapati bagged a silver medal. Ravi Kumar and Elavenil Valarivan stood second in the 10m air rifle mixed team event among seniors.

After an excellent start on the opening day, the Indian shooters had a great outing on the second day of the ongoing 12th Asian Airgun Championships in Taoyuan, Taipei as they bagged a total of three medals. In the junior 10m air rifle mixed team event, there were two teams from India that qualified for the finals and both of them ended on the podium. 

The pair of Agarwal and Vardhan, after finishing second in the qualifying round with 831.2 points, turned it around in the final and managed to bag the gold medal by defeating the duo of Ghosh and Prajapati, who had topped the qualifying round, by a margin of 0.4 points. The gold medallists shot 497.3 while Mehuli and Keval managed to score 496.9 in the final.

Among the seniors in the corresponding category, there were also two pair of Indians but only one could finish inside the medal bracket. The toppers from the qualifying round Ravi and Elavenil were beaten by the Korean pair Park Sunmin and Shin Minki in the final round. The Indian pair, which stood second in the category managed to shoot 498.4 while the Koreans took away the gold medal with 499.6 points. The other team from India with Deepak Kumar and Apurvi Chandela finished fourth just below the Chinese Taipei team who won bronze.

India is currently at the top of the medal tally with a total of five medals after the end of the second day of the competition in Taipei.
