India’s Apurvi Chandela won the gold medal in the hotly-contested final of the women’s 10 air rifle event at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Germany as she shot a total of 251 points in the final. China’s Wang Luyao and Xu Hong finished second and third respectively with scores of 250.8 and 229.4.

Indian ace shooter Apurvi Chandela was always in the mix to bag top honours at this year's third International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Munich, Germany, which began on Sunday. And she lived up to her reputation as she won India’s first gold medal in the tournament in the women’s 10m air rifle event.

Chandela shot a commendable 251 in the final as she narrowly outplayed China’s Wang Luyao who had to settle for silver after scoring 250.8. Another Chinese shooter, Xu Hong, finished third with a score of 229.4 in the final in Munich.

However, India’s Elavenil Valarivan will be disappointed with herself as she failed to secure a podium finish after she could score just 208.3 in the women’s final on Sunday. Earlier in the qualifying rounds, Chandela and Valarivan had topped their respective groups with scores of 633 and 632.7 as they emerged as the firm favourites to make the finals.

This will be Chandela’s second gold medal in the 10m air rifle event at an ISSF World Cup after having previously won gold when the tournament was held in Delhi earlier this year. She has also won silver in the same event during the 2015 Munich competition.
