It was another successful day for Indian wrestling as 19-year old Divya Kakran ended her first outing at the Commonwealth Games with a Bronze medal in the Women's Freestyle 68 kg. Kakran added to an already impressive medal tally to make it seven in the sport of wrestling since yesterday.

It was a proud moment for Indian supporters, as they watched young Indian wrestler Divya Kakran bag her first CWG medal at the 2018 Gold Coast CWG today. Divya defeated Sherin Sultana of Bangladesh in the Bronze medal tie to win India’s seventh medal in wrestling.

Kakran who resides in Noida, Delhi, began her day as she faced off against Gaelle Alakame Anzong of Cameroon in her opening bout. It was a tough fight for Kakran, but she managed to out-wrestle her opponent and win the round by ending the match at a scoreline of 10-8.

Next up was Canadian wrestler Danielle Lappage, who was slated to battle Kakran in the second match of Group B to secure a semi-final spot. Unfortunately, Lappage proved too strong for Kakran as she made her way to a 12-2 victory. However, Divya still managed to secure a semi-final bout against Nigerian wrestler, Blessing Oborodudu, in a bid to win her first CWG medal.

Once again, Kakran lost to Blessing by a rather one-sided scoreline which saw the Nigerian progress to the final of the event. Kakran was drawn against Sherin Sultana of Bangladesh in the third-place playoff.

The young girl from Delhi came good on this occasion as she fought her way to victory by fall in the Bronze medal tie and beat Sultana by a score of 4-0. This ensured that not only would Kakran return home with her first CWG medal, but also that the Indian wrestlers would add another medal to their impressive tally of seven CWG medals.
