CWG 2018 | Indian wrestler Pooja Dhanda settles for Silver in the Women's Freestyle 57 kg

India bagged their sixth medal in wrestling at the 2018 Gold Coast CWG courtesy as female wrestler Pooja Dhanda bagged the Silver medal in the Women's Freestyle 57 kg today. Dhanda beat Emily Schaefer, Ana Moceyawa, Joseph Tiako, and Odunayo Adekuoroye to win the SIlver in the event.

Dhana began the day with a win against Canadian opponent Emily Schaefer whom she beat by a margin of 3-1 in the opening bout of the event. In doing so, Dhanda set up a quarter-final meeting with Ana Moceyawa of New Zealand.

This time Dhanda dominated from start to end as she put in a terrific performance to beat Moceyawa by a score of 8-0 as she emerged victorious by fall. She set up a meeting with Cameroonian wrestler Joseph Tiako in the next round in the semis.

She ran the show in the semis as well as she fought her way to an 11-5 victory against Tiako to secure a spot in finals of the 57 kg category. Dhanda set up a tie with Nigerian wrestler Odunayo Adekuoroye in the finals of the event.

But Dhanda had to settle for a Silver medal in the event as she lost to Adekuoroye by a narrow scoreline of 7-5. Dhanda bagged the sixth medal for India in the wrestling department after Barang Punia added to the tally earlier in the day.
