It is another joyous day for Indian wrestling as wrestler Sumit Malik bagged Gold in the 125 kg category today, after medals from Sushil Kumar, Babita Kumari and others lit up the first day of the wrestling events.
Sumit began the day with a walkover from Cameroonian opponent Claude
Jarvis proved to be a worthy opponent to Sumit as he had to indeed battle his way throughout the bout in order to progress further. Sumit eventually won by a score of 6-4 to set up a meeting with Pakistan’s Tayab Raza in the next round of the event.
An injury to Nigerian wrestler Sinivie Boltic meant that, if Sumit could out wrestle Raza he would secure a Gold in the Men’s 125 kg category.
