Bajrang Punia has touted the encounter between the Haryana Hammers and Punjab Royals as the match of the season and stated that he is confident of taking his side to victory. While the Hammers are already in the semifinals, Royals will have to win one of their next two matches to go through.

The Haryana Hammers will be looking to take revenge on the Punjab Royals for their consecutive final losses in last two seasons against the defending Champions. But Bajrang Punia, one of the mainstays for the Royals has made his intentions clear and stated that he is confident about taking his team home with a victory.

“Today will be the match of the season as Punjab Royals and Haryana Hammers, three time PWL finalists, will be up against each other. I am confident that I will take Punjab Royals to victory,” Punia wrote in his column for TOI.

The Haryana Hammers are already comfortably through to the semifinals and hence the Royals are bound to be under pressure in this match. If they lose this match then their next match against UP Dangal will become a must-win encounter for them, hence they would really want to end of the winning side against the Hammers.

“My last bout with Haji Aliyev was a six-minute power packed game where I put in all my strength, speed and used my presence of mind in attack and defence. And the result was there for everyone to see.”

Punia is currently India’s best wrestler in the 65 kg category and is in good form winning gold medals in Commonwealth Games and Asian Games last year. He also won a silver medal at the World Championship held in Budapest last year. Punia said that he has learnt a lot from his guide and mentor Yogeshwar Dutt.

“The previous years have been stimulating as I have learnt a lot from my coach and mentor Yogeshwar Dutt and that has enabled me in my transformation. This year the Olympic qualification marks will be decided.

“Pro Wrestling League has helped me a lot in terms of preparing for Olympic qualification. The exposure with foreign wrestlers is huge.”
