Pooja Dhanda wins gold at UWW ranking series in Bulgaria

Indian female wrestler Pooja Dhanda has clinched a gold medal in the 59 kg category at the Dan Kolov-Nikol Petrov tournament in Ruse, Bulgaria. On the other hand, after losing her final bout, Sakshi Malik had to settle down with a silver medal in the 65 kg category at the tournament.

Dhanda won the gold medal as she remained unbeaten in her round-robin bouts by defeating Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgstan and Kornelija Zaicevaute of Lithuania and India’s Sarita Mor in the 59 kg category in the tournament. Mor also managed to defeat Tynybekova and Zaicevaute but the most competitive bout in the category between the two Indians was taken by Dhanda.

In the 65 kg category, another Indian female wrestler Sakshi Malik grabbed a silver medal as she was defeated by Sweden’s Henna Johansson of Sweden after giving away a four-point throw in the first period and two takedowns in the second.

In men’s freestyle, India’s Sandeep Tomar lost the final in the 61 kg category to settle with only a silver medal while Asiad gold medallist Bajrang Punia has a chance to win gold as he will play the final bout against Jordan Oliver from the USA in the 65 kg category. Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan defeated Tomar 10-0 in only 34 seconds.
