There’s always pressure to come back: Yuvraj Singh
India's 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh, at an event in Kolkata today, revealed his emotional struggles trying to cope up with the phase where he was left out of the Indian squad. He also talked about the pressure factor that will come into play with his come-back into the national team.
Yuvraj Singh found a place in the Indian T20 squad announced yesterday for the Australian tour after almost two years. During the event, Yuvraj talked about the phase when he could not find a place in the squad saying, “The phase in life that I went through was really terrible and it can’t be worse. But I’ve emerged stronger”.
The flashy southpaw expressed his desire to prove himself while saying it's just a matter of time before he regains his old form. “I’m sure that it will come with time, with the faith I’ve from the selectors, team management and fans. I’m hopeful of getting results,” Yuvraj said.
After the 2014 final against Sri Lanka, the Australian tour will be the first international match for Yuvraj Singh, and a lot is expected of him. The Punjab cricketer knows the amount of pressure that is there on him and hopes to live up to it. “There’s always pressure to come back. Pressure is always there in International cricket. People always expect you to repeat your old performances and records,” he said as quoted by The Hindu.
Playing in the domestic leagues, Yuvraj gained the confidence of the selectors. His batting during the on-going Vijay Hazare trophy where he amassed 341 runs in five matches at an average of 85.25 and a strike rate of 103.64 caught the attention of the selectors and made it difficult for them to exclude him from the list.
“I’m out of cricket for more than one and half years and it’s difficult to motivate yourself to play domestic cricket but that’s the only way forward. I’ve been doing well in domestic cricket,” the Punjab batsman said.
He also thanked all his fans who took to social media to congratulate him and wish him luck. “I’ve been getting so many messages on social media and everybody wants me do well. I am very thankful and grateful to my fans. I hope to do well,” he said, reported the Hindu.
