India v Australia - Records and statistical highlights after the 5th ODI

After an eventful series, which saw a vast number of records being broken and few almost broken during the India vs Australia series including the 5th and Final match today, here’s a quite recap of the some of the most evident records and statistics during the ODI series.

  • 1 - Number of times India have conceded fewer than 7 runs in the last 2 overs against a team in the 1st innings since 2002, bowling all 12 balls. It was 4 runs to Zimbabwe, Harare, September 2005.

  • 1 - Number of bilateral ODI series that had more totals of 300 or more than this series, which has had 8. It was India vs. Australia, 2013-14 (9 such totals).

  • 1st - Aaron Finch's dismissal today was the first LBW of the series for either side.

  • 1st successful 300-plus chase against Australia in Australia

  • 2 - Number of ODI 100s for Warner at SCG, including his century today. First was 127 vs England, Southampton, Jan 2015. Only Jayasuriya (3) has more 100s at SCG.

  • 2 – Number of times Rohit has scored 400 or more runs in a bilateral ODI series, including this; 2013-14 v Aus was the first. Amla is the other batsman to do this (both versus WI).

  • 2 - Number of wins for India in ODIs against Australia at the SCG. Prior to this match, the win-loss record was 1-13, in previous 15 encounters. Their only victory was in the 1st final of CB series 2007-08.

  • 2 - Number of occassions in ODI history four 100s were made in the same ODI match. Today's game missed that feat by one run.

  • 3rd - Rohit Sharma is the only the 3rd batsman to make a 99 vs. Australia in ODIs. Others were G Boycott (99) Oval 1980 A Flower (99*) Harare 1999.

  • Geoff Marsh, his elder son Shaun Marsh and Younger son Mitchell Marsh all scored their first ODI hundred against India.

  • 4 - number of times Australia has lost an ODI after two of their batsmen have made 100s. And on three occasions it was versus India!

  • 56 - number of sixes hit by both sides in the series. This is the first time this has occurred in a bilateral series in Australia.

  • Manish Pandey registers India's 239th ODI century. He is the 37th Indian batsman to make an ODI century.

  • Fewest innings taken for maiden ODI 100 - for India

    • 3 - Manish Pandey

    • 4 - Kedar Jadhav

    • 5 - Manoj Prabhakar/MS Dhoni

  • Most 100s in a bilateral ODI series -

    • 10 – Australia vs India – January 2016

    • 9 – India vs Australia in India – October- November 2013

    • 8 – New Zealand vs Sri Lanka in New Zealand - Jan 2015 / IndvSA in Ind Oct 2015

  • Highest scores after ODI debut for India

    • 1st innings: 86 Robin Uthappa in 2006

    • 2nd innings: 95 WV Raman in 1988

    • 3rd inning: 104* Manish Pandey today.

  • 315 - Runs scored by Steve Smith this series at an average of 63.00 making it the 2nd highest runs in a Bilateral Series for an Australian Captain.

  • 441 - Runs scored by Rohit Sharma this series which are the most runs scored in a bilateral series by an Indian batsman (5-matches max).

  • 3151 runs - Previous highest aggregate of runs in a 5-match ODI series. This series went past that.

  • South Africa - the last team to defeat the Aussies in Australia in ODIs before India’s victory - South Africa won by 3 wickets at Perth on 16-11-2014.
  • 22-10-2015 - Last time an Indian fielder affected a direct run-out in either ODI or Test Cricket - Ajinkya Rahane's throw to run out Chris Morris, Chennai ODI.
