Ravichandran Ashwin Feels Indian All-Rounder Doesnt Fit the Assigned Role
India suffered a loss to Ireland for the first time yesterday. Washington Sundar, an all-rounder, was not able to do much for the team. Following the loss, former Indian all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin has talked about Sundar not fitting the role he has been assigned.

After the loss against Ireland, there have been a lot of questions on the playing XI of the Indian team. And the majority of these questions come around Washington Sundar, who was given a chance to play as an all-rounder. But in the first T20I against Ireland, he was not able to do much for the team with both bat and ball.
Ravichandran Ashwin, former Indian all-rounder, released a video on his channel Ash ki Baat. In the video, he talked about Sundar not fitting the role of an all-rounder in the Indian team. He also recalled the time when the team dropped Axar Patel in the T20 World Cup against South Africa for Washington Sundar, which shows how much he has been backed.
Ashwin said, “The team management has backed Washington Sundar. His place has been confirmed in this Indian team. But I just feel that Washington Sundar plays in the team, but his role is not there. He is on the field but gets just one over, or doesn't get a single over at times.”
Our Take
Washington Sundar is yet to prove himself as an all-rounder in the Indian cricket team. Even though he has done well in a few games, his contributions as an all-rounder remain lower than expected. It remains to be seen whether he will be getting an opportunity to perform for the Indian team in the upcoming match against Ireland, which will also be a series decider, or will he be benched.
