The controversial Decision Review System (DRS) which had faced vehement opposition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the past is likely to be introduced in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League with the board mulling a rethink over their stand.

IPL is likely to see a lbw-less DRS with the BCCI not convinced about the accuracy of the ball tracking technology. Rajeev Shukla, the Chairman of the IPL, confirmed on Friday that there is a proposal for using the DRS in the upcoming season of the IPL.

"There is a proposal to use DRS in the IPL minus the Leg Before Wicket (LBW) referrals. We have just started discussing it," said IPL governing council chairman Rajeev Shukla, after its meeting in Mumbai on Friday, reported PTI.

Earlier, BCCI President Shashank Manohar had also said that the board was only against the use of ball-tracking technology in the use of DRS.

“Actually telling the truth, the BCCI was never against DRS, right from my earlier tenure. The only issue was with LBW being decided by DRS. For everything else, we accepted but the International Cricket Council told us that either we accept it in full or not.

“We are not willing to accept it for LBW,” Manohar had said in December during a live interaction on BCCI’s official Facebook page.

BCCI’s change of heart may have come after crucial decisions went against the Indian team in the ODI series against Australia. However, Indian skipper MS Dhoni had said after the first ODI at the WACA, which was won by Australia after George Bailey got a reprieve from the umpire before making a match-winning hundred, that he is not convinced about the use of DRS.

"It could have [changed the course of the match] but at the same time, we need to push the umpires to take the right decision. You have to see how many 50-50 decisions don't go in our favour. And it always happens that you have to take it but I am still not convinced about DRS," Dhoni had said.
