India retain second spot in ODI rankings despite series loss

India managed to retain their second spot in the latest One-Day International rankings released by the International Cricket Council on Monday despite their 2-3 series defeat to third-placed South Africa at the weekend.

South Africa’s first bilateral ODI series victory on Indian soil in five attempts saw the tourists close in on India on points by reducing the difference to just two.

India’s limited-overs skipper, Mahendra Dhoni, climbed two places to the sixth spot in the ODI batsman rankings, one spot above Shikhar Dhawan, while two other Indian batsmen also moved up.  In-form Rohit Shrama went up three places to 12th,while Ajinkya Rahane climbed 11 places to a career-highest 27.

Virat Kohli remained in second spot, behind South Africa skipper AB de Villiers. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who missed the last three ODIs against South Africa due to injury, dropped a place to 10.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel rose by 19 places to reach 28th spot, Amit Mishra climbed 13 places to 32 and Mohit Sharma moved up by four places to 44.
