Sourav Ganguly has heaped praise over Virat Kohli, for his consistent performances with the bat in ongoing tour of Australia. However, the former Indian captain has was quick to point out that, despite the individual performances, as a team, India have failed to improve their standards overseas.

Virat Kohli scored 381 runs, which included two 100s and two 50s, in the five ODIs he played, in the recently concluded series – second highest after Rohit Sharma. Kohli followed that up with a match-winning innings (90 of 71 balls) in the first t20 match played at Adelaide Oval.

Sourav Ganguly, who has witnessed first-hand the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman decimate bowlers in Australia, believes Kohli has bettered those two in terms of performances Down Under.

"The only positive from India's tour of Australia is Virat Kohli. He just keeps getting better and better in Australia. I have seen a lot of player do very well in Australia, like Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman but I think Kohli is the best," Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

The 43-year-old, however, was quick to question India's performances overseas, insisting that he has failed to observe any 'marked improvement'.

"There is no marked improvement from the rest. Dhoni's overseas performances haven't got better, neither have the spinners'.

"The team is not getting better in case of overseas performances. Yes, Kohli, Dhawan and Rohit have been very good but it's not just about individuals," Ganguly added.

Ganguly felt that one of the reasons why India struggled to score runs towards the end of the innings, along with the failed chase in the fourth ODI, is the inexperience of the lower-middle order.

"The lower-order batsmen panicked and the inexperience showed. There should have been some message from the dressing-room. Ravindra Jadeja (who remained unbeaten on 24 in the fourth ODI) needed to show them some direction. These are important in close matches," Ganguly said.
