We should treat the final as just another game: Ravi Shastri
Ahead of the all the important Asia Cup final tomorrow, Indian team director Ravi Shastri on Saturday advised his team to treat the final as just another game. The former Indian cricketer also said that the win against Bangladesh in the group stage will also help India in the final.
“They (Indian players) are experienced players and they should treat this as another game. Our approach to every team and every game has been the same.
“Right from the start, we have approached every game as a knock-out game. The final will be no different for us,” Shastri said during the short press conference ahead of the final.
The former Indian cricketer also added that a hard earned victory against Bangladesh in the first match of the tournament will help India in the final.
"That was (first match) a good game. Bangladesh was a very good win, to start off with. In the first game, we were under pressure till the last 10 overs, when we bounced back. Every game is a tough game. It’s about how you balance things out in batting and bowling. We did an excellent job in that game.”Shastri added.
Ravi Shastri also chose to play down the pitch factor, which has been a topic of discussion in the tournament. Earlier, Indian skipper M S Dhoni had talked about his reservations about the pitches used in the Asia Cup.
“Pitches are not in our hands. I was asked before the start of the tournament that you are going to get a green top? So be it. So whatever track is on offer tomorrow, we are ready to play.
“Our job is to go play in whatever conditions we are offered. Because you realise very quickly that it is not one team playing there, both teams have to play on that surface. So it is fair play, the 53-year old said.
When asked about the partisan crowd at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur for the final, Shastri seemed unfazed by it and answered by saying “who cares.”
“We’re used to noise. Let there be 100 percent noise. Who cares? When you play at that level, you are immune to that. You can use to your advantage as well. You can show that you can play,” Shastri said before signing off.
