BCCI calls special general meeting to elect new president
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a Special General Meeting on May 22 at Mumbai to elect a new president following the resignation of Shashank Manohar. Manohar had stepped down from the BCCI President’s job on Tuesday before being elected as the ICC Chairman.
According to a PTI report, Goa Cricket Association secretary Vinod Phadke confirmed that a Special General Meeting (SGM) will be held
“Yes, we have the SGM on May 22 in Mumbai. The only agenda is the election of the president,” Phadke told PTI.
As per BCCI rules, an SGM has to be convened within 15 days to explain the situation to the current members of the board. Manohar had exited from the BCCI President’s post on May 10 before becoming the first elected independent ICC Chairman on May 12.
According to media reports, the current BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur is likely to be elevated to the post of President, with Maharashtra’s Ajay Shirke, who quit from the post of the BCCI Treasurer back in 2013 protesting against the board’s inaction after the 2013 spot-fixing and betting scandal, expected to take up the role of Secretary.
