Fast bowler Shahadat Hossain and his wife have been acquitted by a Bangladesh court of torturing an 11-year-old girl whom he employed as a domestic help. Shahadat was banned from all forms of cricket by the BCB during the investigation.

"The couple have been released as the prosecution failed to prove them guilty," prosecutor Ali Asgar from the women and children repression prevention tribunal told AFP news agency.

Shahadat, 30, has played 38 Tests, bagging 72 wickets, and 51 ODIs in which he took 47 wickets.

The cricketer spent two months in custody before being released on bail in December last. In May the BCB allowed him to play domestic cricket

On "humanitarian considerations" until the case was settled, but the fast bowler wasn’t picked by any of the teams for the lucrative Bangladesh Premier League in the current season.
