Tilak Varma's ₹33 Lakh Signing Raises Questions About Player Payments.

Tilak Varma is once again on the headlines and this time it is not due to the fact that he is doing well for India A. It is due to his appearance in the auction of the Telangana T20 League. This is a new T20 league for the state which has been recently approved by the BCCI, and an auction also took place for the same.

In this, Tilak Varma also found his name in the auction which surprised everyone. The time in which the tournament will be played is the same time when Tilak will be busy with the Indian team in the T20I series against Ireland and England. Currently also, he is busy leading India A in Sri Lanka. Despite a busy international schedule, he found his name among the highest bids of the auction.

He was bought by Medak Falcons for a massive total of 33 lakh rupees. The team had a total purse of 60 lakhs, out of which they spent 33 lakhs just to get Tilak Varma. But it won't be of any use to them, as Tilak Varma is likely to be unavailable for this tournament due to his national commitments.

Our Take

Tilak Varma’s case in the Telangana T20 League remains exceptional. He is unlikely to receive the full amount of the bidding at which he has been bought. Just before the tournament commences, he is likely to be ruled out due to his national commitments and the team will have to get a replacement for the Indian batsman.
