Ahead of the New Zealand series, Indian batsman, Ajinkya Rahane says that he never looks too far ahead into the future and and always does his homework before every series. The 28-year old also spoke about the contribution of Anil Kumble and New Zealand attack.

For the past few years, Ajinkya Rahane has been the most consistent cricketer for India, at least in the Test format.  Despite his numerous achievements overseas, he couldn’t make himself a regular in the team, especially in the shorter formats of the game.

Before a long series at home against New Zealand starts  from 22nd of September, Ajinkya Rahane  is getting ready to keep performing consistently. The right handed batsman spoke about this preparations for the series on Friday.

“I never set targets beforehand. I believe setting targets takes you too much into future. Looking too far ahead can clutter your mind. Instead I like taking each day as it comes. Right now, the focus will be on New Zealand series," he told PTI.

While he wants to be three steps ahead of the opposition, Rahane also wants to make sure that they don’t take the visitors lightly.

Hailing the Kiwi attack as a competitive one, the Indian Test Vice-captain said, “It's a decent attack. They have Trent Boult, also good spinners like Mitch Santner and Ish Sodhi. We can't let our guard down.”

Speaking about his performances at Caribbean, 27 year Mumbai lad said, “"I always strive to improve and I am satisfied with my performance in the Caribbean. I had prepared specially to face the Dukes red ball.”

He joined every other team mates in the  praise of the coach Anil Kumble and his impact in the team.

"He has been phenomenal with his inputs. He has left international cricket for nearly 8 years but nothing seems to have changed. His passion is unmatched. He has an eye for every minute detail. He told me that I am doing well and key to consistency is focusing on routines," Rahane concluded.

Correction : We had written that Rahane is India's most consistent batsman across all three formats. It has been modified to "in the Test format".
