VIDEO | As MS Dhoni stays still, Ambati Rayudu almost completes two runs
Ambati Rayudu has been in the form of his life as he’s been one of the most consistent batsmen in this IPL. In the last over of today’s game, Rayudu went past Dhoni and then hurled back to the non-strikers end only to get run out as the CSK skipper didn’t respond to the former's call at all.
Despite being 36-year-old, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the fittest cricketers in India. A few months back he competed against Hardik Pandya (who is also supremely fit) in a 100m race on the field and almost beat him (but was on par with the Pandya). Also, he is one of the fastest runners between the wickets and loves building his innings by running hard. But once the end overs approach, he prefers to take the strike and he has often denied singles in order to keep strike in order to give the team maximum helps during the death overs. He once again did that in today’s game as he didn’t respond to Ambati Rayudu’s call in the final over the innings.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were asked to bat first as Shreyas Iyer, who was captaining his second IPL game, won the toss. It was a sedate start for CSK as they made 26 in 4 overs, but then Shane Watson took charge and went after the DD bowlers and put them under pressure. Watson scored a brilliant 78 in 40 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes and provided CSK with a perfect platform for a big finish.
It was then the MS Dhoni show began as the former Indian skipper scored a brutal and a superb 51 to take CSK past the 200-run mark. However, in the last over of the innings, Rayudu was run out of the penultimate ball in a bizarre fashion. MS Dhoni tried to pull a short delivery from Trent Boult and couldn’t get it away.
