IPL 2018 | I think replacing David Warner is an impossible thing to do, says Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson, who became the SRH captain after David Warner was banned for the ball-tampering scandal, insists that replacing David Warner’s place in the team would be impossible for him. Williamson has led SRH from the front and has been a strong pillar in their journey to the top of the table.
Kane Williamson, who has scored 354 runs in the 9 matches he has played so far, has eased into the shoes of David Warner very smoothly, without causing any major bumps. Williamson was announced the captain of SRH after Warner was banned in the ball-tampering saga that happened in Australia’s tour of South Africa. Alongside handling his troops really well, he has also held the middle order of SRH together. Along with his leadership skills, he has also proved that T20 cricket is not about rash hitting only and there’s always room for some classical cricket.
Despite the exemplary performance, Williamson insisted that replacing David Warner in the team was impossible and rightly termed Warner as one of the best batsmen in T20 cricket.
“I don’t think it’s a matter of replacing David Warner,” Williamson said in Hyderabad, ahead of their home game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday. “I think that’s probably an impossible thing to do. He is one of the best T20 batters in the world and for this franchise in the last few years.”
Even though Hyderabad have one foot in the playoffs, Williamson is taking nothing for granted. He felt that the teams needed to keep its adaptability intact.
“It’s nice to be on top of the table. But at the same time, I mentioned a number of times that we want to keep seeing those improvements, keep adapting to the different surfaces that we would be faced with in every game,” he said.
SRH have their next match against RCB in Hyderabad, who are pondering 6th on the points table. Williamson acknowledged that RCB
“The RCB side, they are fantastic,” added Williamson. “There are a number of teams in the competition that haven’t come away with wins like they would have wanted to. A lot of those teams have lost really close games and things can be very different in T20 cricket. We know they are a very strong team with some of the best players in the world.”
