IPL 2018| AB de Villiers’ catch is spiderman stuff, normal humans can’t do it, believes Virat Kohli
AB de Villiers’ one-handed stunner in the match against SRH, has forced Virat Kohli to compare his teammate to Spiderman and opined that it’s not possible for normal humans to repeat the feat. Looking at the playoffs, Kohli said that their win creates a sense of fear in other teams.
In a much-needed victory for RCB to stay alive in the tournament, de Villiers punched above his weight to make sure Royal Challengers get those 2 crucial points. The South-African batsman first scored a blitzkrieg 69 from 39 balls and in the second innings he pulled off an astonishing one-handed catch to leave everybody stunned in the cricketing world. Just after the timeout break, skipper Virat Kohli handed the ball to Moeen Ali and he just gave away four runs in five balls that increased the pressure on Alex Hales, it was expected that desperate Hales will go big in the last ball. The England opener just did that to go over mid wicket but de Villiers jumped and was 1.13 meters off the ground when he managed to pull off the catch at the boundary line.
Applauding AB’s effort Virat Kohli stated that this kind of catches are not possible for everyone and the stuff can be compared to the likes of superhero Spiderman. Kohli also thanked the crowds for turning up in large numbers for their last home game.
“That was spiderman stuff (about ABD’s catch). You don’t do that as normal human beings. I thought it was going for a six but he pulled it off. He can do freakish things but I am used to it now. His fielding I am pretty used to now. Need to thank the crowd as it is our last home game,” the Indian captain observed as quoted by TOI.
RCB appeared to be done and dusted before some days and nobody was giving them a chance to qualify for the playoffs but looking at how the tournament has turned in the last couple of weeks specifically after Kings Eleven Punjab’s debacle, one can say that RCB is now a true contender to qualify. Reflecting on the whole scenario of IPL and the contention towards playoffs berth Kohli acknowledged that the sudden back to track RCB has created a sense of fear on other teams with its performance because it can hamper their chances for the top 4 finish.
“I have seen many of these games before. Just had to stay calm at the end of it. After a point of time, you need to understand that the bowlers are in control of what they want to do. We have two games like this. The one against Mumbai was something similar. The wicket was very good and in the second innings, there was a lot of dew. Hats off to the bowlers for maintaining the composure and giving us two points. The last three games have been like this with our backs against the wall,” said Kohli in his post-match presentation interview.
“We head to Rajasthan with momentum on our side. We are pretty comfortable with the side. Hats off to Moeen to perform the way he did today. Teams don’t want us to win. We sense fear and pounce,” he added.
