Ranji Trophy | Elite A Day 2: Sheldon Jackson stars for Saurashtra against Chhattisgarh

Saurashtra batsman Sheldon Jackson scored 147 runs in the first innings to take his side to a huge total of 475 against Chhattisgarh in an elite group A clash. In another game of the group, Maharashtra enforced a follow on on Vidarbha after they were bowled out for a mere 120 in the first innings.

Saurashtra vs Chhattisgarh

Brief Scores: Saurashtra 475/10 (Sheldon Jackson 147, Snell Patel 91; Md Shahnawaz 4/97) leads Chhattisgarh 88/0 (Sahil Gupta 51*) by 387 runs

Resuming their first innings, Saurashtra duo Sheldon Jackson and Arpit Vasavada toyed with the Chhattisgarh bowlers on a flat Rajkot track. Arpit got out for 63 while Jackson went on to score 147 runs and took the home team to 475 before getting all-out. Mohammmad Shahnawaz scalped four wickets for the visitors who have got off to a good start in their first innings as well. Both the openers Sahil Gupta and Rishabh Tiwari are unbeaten on 51 and 35 respectively as they trail by 387 runs at stumps on Day 2.   

Maharashtra vs Vidarbha

Brief Scores: Vidarbha 120 and 46 (Sanjay Ramaswamy 25*, Faiz Fazal 20*) trail Maharashtra 343/10 (Chirag Khurana 89, Rahul Tripathy 73; Aditya Sarwate 3/51) by 177 runs

Maharashtra is in full control against Vidarbha after the second day’s play as Vidarbha after following on is 46/0 in the second innings and is still 177 runs behind Maharashtra’s first innings total. After getting all-out for 343 in the first innings, the bowlers wreaked havoc for the home team. Satyajeet Bachhav took three wickets while Samad Fallah, Anupam Sanklecha and Nikit Dhumal scalped two each to bowl Vidarbha out for a mere total of 120 runs in the first innings. Maharashtra enforced follow-on and Vidarbha have their openers Faiz Fazal and Sanjay Ramaswamy in the middle.

Baroda vs Gujarat

Brief Scores: Gujarat 264/6 (Rujul Bhatt 70*, Samit Gohil 63; Atit Seth 3/37) trail Baroda 290/10 (Yusuf Pathan 69, Siddharth Desai 5/109) by 26 runs

Rujul Bhatt and Samit Gohil batted well to take Gujarat to the driver’s seat in the game against Baroda. Rujul is still batting on 70 while Gohil got out for 63 earlier in the innings. At stumps on the second day, Gujarat was trailing by only 26 runs with four wickets in hand. Atit Seth and Bharghav Bhatt picked up three wickets for Baroda. Earlier in the game, Yusuf Pathan (69) top-scored for Baroda to take them to 290 after Siddharth Desai’s fifer for Gujarat. 

Railways vs Mumbai 

Brief Scores: Railways 115/6 (Arindam Ghosh 39*; Tushar Deshpande 3/29) trails Mumbai 411/10 (Shivam Dubey 114, Siddhesh Lad 99; Harsh Tyagi 4/83) by 296 runs

Railways are in dire straits in the first innings against a strong Mumbai unit as they have been reduced to 115/6 at the end of the second day. Arindam Ghosh is their last hope who is still batting on 39. Mahesh Rawat also got off to a good start before getting out to Tushar Deshpande on 30. Mumbai pacers led by Dhawal Kulkarni ran through the Railways batting line-up from the very beginning.  Deshpande got three while Kulkarni and Shivam Dubey got one each. Earlier in the day, Dubey scored 114 with the bat while yesterday’s unbeaten batsman Siddhesh Lad failed to get to his hundred as he got out for 99. Mumbai scored a mammoth 411 before being bowled out on the second day of their first Ranji game this season.
