Gary Kirsten to coach Cardiff-based franchise in The Hundred

Former India coach Gary Kirsten will be coaching the men's team of a Cardiff-based franchise in the inaugural edition of the Hundred in 2020. The former South African cricketer will join spin wizard Shane Warne, who was earlier announced as the coach of the Lord's based team in the competition.

The Hundred, a professional 100-ball cricket league which will be commencing in July 2020,  keeps adding bigger and better names to the competition, with former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten being the latest addition. Kirsten will be coaching the men's team of a Cardiff-based franchise in the competition.

"To be involved in English and Welsh cricket from a coaching perspective is something that I have never done. It’s great to be given that opportunity and to come to Cardiff,” Kirsten said was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“This is a new format that I am sure will grow and grow. The real win is that it will grab the attention of families and expose the game of cricket to as many environments and communities as possible,” he added.

Earlier this month, it was also announced that the 51-year-old would be taking charge of Durban Heat in the Mzansi Super League for the upcoming season. The South African has enjoyed stints as head coach with India and South Africa in national colours, while also having coached Royal Challengers Bangalore and Hobart Hurricanes in T20 cricket. His most notable achievement till date came in 2011 was the 50-over World Cup, where he helped Team India win their second title.
