After long injury rehab, Prithvi Shaw included in Mumbai squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
After missing out on the action for the past three months, Prithvi Shaw has made a comeback and found himself in the Mumbai team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019. Mumbai will be led by India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane in the competition that starts from February 21 in Indore.
Prithvi Shaw had an ankle injury, which he sustained during a practice match before the Test series against Australia and was forced out of action for the past three months. However, Shaw had undergone rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and was declared fit following which, he was named in the Mumbai team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
"I am really looking forward to taking the field again and performing at my best. I have missed playing competitive cricket due to my injury and I'm ready now to give my best for Mumbai and India," Shaw told TOI.
The 19-year old had admitted that he was disappointed not to play against Australia in the historic Test series. Moreover, he had also felt that he missed out on gaining good experience against a quality bowling attack in Australia but was also happy that India went on to defeat the hosts 2-1 in the Tests.
"Initially, I was very sad to miss the Tests in Australia, because I wanted to win games for India. I would have gained good experience playing against a quality attack, but I can't do anything about it. However, I felt better when we beat Australia in the Test series," said the opener.
The Mumbai-based batsman had cleared the Yo-Yo test and was roped into the squad by the selectors, led by former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar. Shaw will be led by India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane for the tournament which commences on February 21 in Indore. Mumbai will be bolstered by the return of Rahane, Shaw, and Shreyas Iyer after the team failed to make an impact at the Ranji Trophy 2018-19.
