PCB offer to host Sri Lanka for two Test Championship matches in Pakistan
The Pakistan Cricket Board has urged Sri Lanka Cricket to play a two-match Test series in Pakistan as a part of the ICC Test Championship, which is scheduled for later this year. PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and MD Wasim Khan have made the offer on the sidelines of the ACC meeting in Singapore.
In March 2009, a touring Sri Lankan team was attacked by gunmen on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on the third morning of the second of the two Tests and that attack had a long effect on the Pakistan Cricket as the country is yet to host a Test match after that.
In between, the country managed to host few internationals and hosted the final of the 2017 edition of the PSL in Lahore which turned out to be a stepping stone for the return of international cricket in the country. Although New Zealand and Australia first showed interest in sending their teams to the Asian nation, they later backed out, making Pakistan fans satiate with few PSL matches.
However, determined to bring international cricket to Pakistan, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and Managing Director Wasim Khan have extended an offer to Sri Lanka on the sidelines of the recent meeting Asian Cricket Council meeting in Singapore and urged them to play a couple of matches in Karachi and Lahore.
A PCB spokesperson, in an interview to Cricbuzz, stated that the board has also extended an invitation to the Sri Lankan cricket officials to access the security situation while adding that the Pakistani officials were now waiting for their Sri Lankan counterparts to confirm the date of their arrival in the country. If the proposed tour sees the light of the day, it will also ensure that Pakistan will host their first Test match on their home soil after that fateful Lahore day.
