After becoming the second opener after the great Sunil Gavaskar to score two tons in a single Test match, Rohit Sharma uas been hailed as the next Sehwag by Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma. He also showered the Indian bowling with praise for their performance in the fourth innings.

Rajkumar Sharma was all praise for the Indian team after their emphatic 203-run win over the Proteas in Visakhapatnam in the first Test match of the ongoing Freedom series.

Rohit was the standout performer of the match as he scored 176 runs in the first inning and followed it up with a score of 126 in the second innings which set the tone for India in their first home Test of the season. With this feat, Rohit became the first-ever player to score two tons in a Test match on debut as an opener. He also became only the second opener to score two tons in a test match.

"Rohit is an outstanding player. Everyone knows about the talent he possesses. He was known for his batting in the ODI format, but he showed everyone that he can be a great Test player as well,” Rajkumar told ANI.

“India has found an established opener now. He can accelerate whenever the team requires him to. I think the team has found another Sehwag. He scored five hundreds in the World Cup and he has earned his place in the Test squad.” he added.

Rajkumar lauded pacer Mohammad Shami and the Indian bowling unit for their performance and intensity in the fourth innings which earned India the win. Shami notched up his fifth fifer in Test cricket while Jadeja supported him ably by bagging his eighth four-for in Test cricket.

“It was a very clinical performance. The way our bowlers performed today was very nice to see. Bowlers maintained their intensity throughout. Ashwin picked up seven wickets in the first innings and in the second innings, Jadeja showed his class. Shami was outstanding as well, he showed how useful he can be,” said Rajkumar.

The childhood coach of Kohli didn’t forget Mayank Agarwal while praising the top performers of the first Test. The young opener not only brought up his maiden century but also converted it into a double ton.

“I would also like to congratulate Mayank Agarwal for the way he played in the first innings. He was outstanding in Australia as well. Everyone was struggling against Nathan Lyon on that tour, but Mayank used his feet and tackled him really well.” he signed off.

With this win against a lousy South African team, India has consolidated their position on the top of the Test Championship table with 160 points. India has won all three matches they have played so far and are leading New Zealand, who are second on the table, by a huge margin of 100 points. The second Test of the three-match Freedom series will start from October 10 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
