Age fraud is unacceptable, says Rahul Dravid
The current National Cricket Academy (NCA) director Rahul Dravid has stated that age fraud in sports is an 'erosion of culture' and is unacceptable by all means. The former India captain has alerted everyone in the cricket fraternity to not allow such a thing to happen in their awareness.
Veteran batsman Rahul Dravid delivered a 15-minute speech at the prize distribution ceremony of the Times Cricket Shield in which he made his notion about age fraud in cricket pretty clear. He directed the need for everyone involved in the game to play an active part in stopping this from happening.
“It is up to the maidan secretaries, the owners of the office teams, the club teams to ensure that this does not happen,” Dravid said. “Age fraud leads to an erosion of culture. It leads to a scenario where a lot of talented boys don’t get to play when they should actually be playing.”
Fielding overage players to participate in state teams is something that has often happened and according to Dravid, these teams don't end up experiencing much success at the senior level. India's former U-19 coach also addressed the players and asked them to not worry too much about their selection and rather focus on enjoying the game.
"Not everyone of you will go on to play Ranji Trophy or for India or get an IPL contract. But don't let selection come in the way of your enjoyment. If you are always worried about your next selection, you will never enjoy the game," he said.
