Back Shaw and Dhawan to fire on Tuesday

|

@ IPL T20

Second-placed Delhi Capitals and third-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore will lock horns in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, with the winner of the contest slated to go top of the table. Both these sides have been extremely consistent since IPL 2020, but you know what else has been consistent? Our tips.

Shikhar Dhawan to score over 27.5 runs @ 1.85

The game against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai last season signified a marked difference in the T20 approach of Shikhar Dhawan, and ‘Gabbar’ has not looked back since then. Since that game, where he scored 57 off just 33 balls, Dhawan has racked up runs aplenty at a quite remarkable SR. Last season he finished second in the list of top run scorers and this time around he is at the very top of the charts. Dhawan has scored over 27.5 in 4 of his 5 knocks this season, including in each of his last three knocks, which read 28, 45 and 92. This consistent run stretches way back to last season, with him having scored over 27.5 in 6 of his last 9 IPL knocks. In fact, not just this, 13 off Dhawan’s last 19 IPL knocks have seen him score over 27.5. The southpaw has also been in fine form versus Bangalore of late, having accumulated scores of 54, 32 and 50 vs the Reds in the last 3 H2H matches. Why this bet is a great one is also because Dhawan does not just favor one venue - he thrives everywhere he bats. Since IPL 2020, the left-hander has batted in 6 different venues in T20s and he’s averaged over 30 in 5 of them.

Delhi opening partnership over 25.5 @ 1.83

IPL 2020 saw Delhi struggle to find partners for Dhawan, but this time around, with Prithvi Shaw firing, DC’s opening stand has been devastating. Together, Dhawan and Shaw have averaged 58.8 for the first wicket and have put up fifty-run stands in three of DC’s first five matches. In 2 of the side’s last 3 matches, the pair have crossed the magic number of 25.5 and in their last encounter versus SRH, the duo put up 81 for the opening stand. Why this bet is fantastic is because both Dhawan and Shaw are in blazing form. Dhawan, as we know, is the orange cap holder while Shaw himself is in the Top 10 run-getters for the season. Their opponents on Tuesday, RCB, too have conceded an average of 37 for the opening stand in their last 3 games and the Reds leaked 74 runs for the first wicket in their previous encounter vs CSK. With the Ahmedabad pitch expected to be a belter, lay your faith in these two to deliver the goods.

Delhi to score over 48.5 in the powerplay @ 1.82

We’ve talked about the run-accumulation ability of the Delhi openers, but it’s also high time that we discuss their explosivity. In the first six overs this season, DC have maintained a SR of 136.67, which is the best amongst all teams in the competition. Their average powerplay score for this season reads 49.2 and this increases to 50.66 if you take just the last three games. Despite playing in the slow and sluggish Chepauk track, Shaw and Dhawan racked up 51 in the powerplay in their last encounter and the pair have scored over 50 in 3/5 games this season. Both are striking at over 140 this season, and DC also put on 63 and 53 versus RCB in the H2H matches last season. To go along with this, thrice in their last 4 games Bangalore have leaked over 50 in the powerplay, including in their last game versus CSK, where they conceded 51 off the first six. Expect the two DC openers to come out all guns blazing and demolish the RCB bowlers inside the powerplay on Tuesday.
