New Zealand opener Martin Guptil smashed six four and seven sixes en route his 56-ball 93 against Scotland at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. Guptill, who scored most runs for his team in the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup, partnered for 105 runs with Glenn Phillips.

The 35-year-old equalled India opener Rohit Sharma's elusive T20I record with the cracking knock. Guptill and Rohit have notched five 90-plus scores in T20Is whereas West Indies opener Chris Gayle has four to his name.

Also, the Auckland-born crossed the 3,000-run mark in the T20Is, becoming only the second batsman after Virat Kohli to achieve the feat.

Earlier in the day, Scotland won the toss and asked the Kiwis to bat first. New Zealand lost Daryl Mitchell (13), captain Kane Willaimson (0) and Devon Conway (1) before the end of 7th over, but Guptill continued to score briskly from one end. He later got good support from Phillips (33) as New Zealand ended their innings at 172 for 5 in 20 overs.

Scotland are already out of the semi-finals race, while New Zealand are trying to win their second match in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.
