Reports | Zaheer Khan in line to replace Gautam Gambhir as LSG mentor
Former Indian pace legend Zaheer Khan has surfaced as a potential candidate for a coaching role with the Lucknow Super Giants. The KL Rahul-led team has been without a mentor since Gautam Gambhir departed the franchise to rejoin his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of IPL 2024.
The former pacer is being considered for the position previously held by Gautam Gambhir and might also offer his expertise to the team's bowlers. Additionally, he would serve as a crucial intermediary between the players and the management, with the franchise's owner known for his deep passion for the game. Additionally, LSG has also parted ways with their bowling coach, Morne Morkel, following the conclusion of the 2024 season. The Proteas veteran became part of Gambhir's support staff for the Indian team, taking on the role of bowling coach.
Zaheer Khan's potential role with the Indian team didn't materialize as the BCCI opted for Morne Morkel, likely on the recommendation of Gautam Gambhir. Notably, Zaheer has valuable coaching experience in the IPL, having previously been part of the Mumbai Indians' setup. In his new role with the Lucknow Super Giants, Zaheer would collaborate with head coach Justin Langer and a strong coaching team that includes Adam Voges, Lance Klusener, and Jonty Rhodes, among others.
