SA vs NED | Twitter reacts to de Kockās mindfulness rubbishing Levittās confidence over successful DRS
Confidence is good, but overconfidence does not take an individual down a successful path. Netherlands opener Michael Levitt, tasted similar during their clash against South Africa in New York as Quinton de Kockās presence of mind helped South Africa draw first blood in the contest.
South Africa and the Netherlands have had an intriguing history in the past couple of years with the latter causing back-to-back upsets against the former in ICC events. The stage was set for another scintillating clash with Aiden Markram winning the toss and asking the Dutch side to bat first under pleasant weather conditions. Like most times, Marco Jansen donned the new ball and scalped a wicket in the first over, courtesy of a brilliant DRS confessed by Quinton de Kock against all odds.Ā
On the third ball of the first over, Jansen bowled a good length delivery outside the fourth stump that gained a steep rise and jagged a tad into the batter. Levitt tried to get off the mark with an intended drive away from the body but ended up with an inside edge that was spotted later on Ultraedge. The original decision from the onfield umpire was Not Out and the Proteas men including JansenĀ felt the same. While Levitt seemed confident that of no bat involvement and fist-pumped his partner, de Kock was certain that there was a noise, and hence asked the skipper to go upstairs with a review. Eventually, theĀ ultraedgeĀ spotted a spike in the graph and de Kockās mindfulness was celebrated within the Proteas community as Jansen drew the first blood.Ā
Soon after, the replays showed that Janssen was uncertain of any noise as he gestured by putting his hand near the ears. But the keeper denying all odds to attain a successful Proteas review won the Twitterverse appreciation.
