WATCH | Savage Jack Leach raises 'specs' to mark epic hundred celebration
Time and again, the cricket field has witnessed some uncanny celebrations and England spinner Jack Leach just made the list. His epic gesture to raise the spectacles after scoring a rare hundred for Somerset mixed humor to the contest in a three-day Second XI Championship game against Middlesex.
With a lead of three runs after the first innings, Sam Robson’s unbridled 88 helped the Middlesex side reach 316 runs with Edward Leonard scalping a three-fer. Having lost a couple of wickets late on Day 2, Somerset resumed their innings at 44/2 with Jack Leach at one end. The side advanced to 165/3 at the cusp of lunch before Leach raced to his ton in the second session and broke into a humorous celebration.
As Leach reached the century mark in 155 balls, he took off his spectacle and raised it along with the bat. The spin-bowling all-rounder batted in the middle order for his county side and was not wearing a helmet then. Although he was dismissed for 104 runs, consolidating a 166-run partnership with Thomas Rew, Somerset ended on the winning side. However, Leach’s celebration became the talk of the town as the video surfaced through Twitterverse.
