‌SA vs IND | Interesting Stats you need to know from India’s first innings against South Africa in Johannesburg

Records are meant to be broken and such was the case in the fourth T20I between South Africa and India. Lightning-fast centuries from Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson helped India set up a mammoth total of 283/1 at the Wanderers, Johannesburg, and here’s all you need to know about it.

1st- Sanju Samson becomes the first batter in history to muster three T20I centuries in a calendar year (2024). One of them were against Bangladesh whereas the next two came against South Africa in the ongoing series.

23- Sixes scored in India’s batting innings. The Men in Blue broke their previous record (22) against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in 2024, held jointly with South Africa vs WI in Centurion in 2023).

283/1 - The second-highest innings total scored in a game between two Full Members. Interestingly, the best total is recorded by the Men in Blue themselves when they scored 297/6 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in 2024.

210* - The highest second-wicket partnership for India, courtesy of Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson’s century in this match.

210*- This is the highest-run partnership for any wicket against South Africa in T20Is by any team

3- Number of T20I centuries Sanju Samson possesses now. Currently, he holds the record for the third-most tons in T20Is. Suryakumar Yadav (4) and Rohit Sharma (5) are the only Indian batters to have hit more centuries than Samson

3rd - This is the third instance in Men’s T20 internationals when an innings registered a couple of centuries. Previously, Sabawoon Davizi (115) and Dylan Steyn (106) for the Czech Republic vs Bulgaria in 2022 did a similar thing followed by Lachlan Lake (134) and Kendel Fleeming (109) for Japan vs China in 2023/24 are the other two occurrences.

1st - This was the first time that two players from a Full Members nation racked up centuries in an innings. 

283/1 - This is the highest innings total by any team in South Africa. The previous best was by the Titans (271/3) against the Knights in Potchefstroom.

5th - Tilak Varma became the fifth batter in International cricket to muster back-to-back T20I centuries. The others to do so are Sanju Samson (IND), Phil Salt (ENG), Rilee Rossouw (SA), and Gustav Mckeon (FRA).
