In modern-day cricket, there are geniuses and then there is Jasprit Bumrah. The Gujarat-based pacer continued merry-making despite the unfavorable bowling conditions at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur as Bangladesh batters failed to understand him in the first and second session of the fourth day.

Following a couple of days' hiatus due to incessant rain in Kanpur, the sun showed up early on Monday morning with play set to resume. As Bangladesh aimed to extend from a score of 107/3, their positive intent was halted on several occasions by Bumrah. Despite minimum assistance for the bowlers on a flat black soil wicket that was under covers for two consecutive days, Bumrah paved the way for the Indian bowlers to help the side rattle Bangladesh for 233 runs in the first innings.

The idea of an extended spell to Akash Deep and Bumrah paid dividends as the latter drew the first wicket on the day by cleaning up Mushfiqur Rahim. After a four, the wicketkeeper-batter failed to judge an in-jagger in the 41st over as the ball pitched near the seventh stump line and seamed in sharply to hit the stumps. With India managing a couple of more scalps until Lunch, Bumrah was handed the ball for a second time on the day at the start of the second session. He didn’t quite disappoint as he broke the building stand between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mominul Haque by outwitting the former followed by cleaning up Taijul Islam in the 72nd over.

Seeing Bumrah extract a three-fer to reduce the Bangladesh side to 233 runs, the Twitterverse could not shy away from applauding his genius.
