SRH vs PBKS | Twitter amazed as Shreyas lambasts umpire for foregoing protocol by ignoring captain

Shreyas Iyer cut a frustrated figure when things were not going PBKS' way during a defence of 245 against SRH in Hyderabad on Saturday

Pressure gets to the best of us, and Shreyas Iyer is human after all. The Punjab Kings skipper finally shed the cool nad calm exterior he has managed to maintain throughout the season and gave the umpire a serious verbal bashing in Hyderbaad after he accepted a DRS call without consulting him first.

Punjab Kings rode on the back of a rapid fire opening stand between Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya followed by a 82-run onslaught from Shreyas Iyer off just 36 balls to set the Sunrisers Hyderabad a mammoth target of 246, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday. However, the tables quickly turned when the hosts walked out to bat as Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head took to the ground with their trademark no-holds-barred approach and smashed their way to 83 without any loss in the powerplay to keep SRH in the game. The partnership waas neither risk nor chance-free, the biggest of which came when Yash Thakur managed to have Abhishek hole out on a front-foot no-ball. Another opportunity did seem to arrive in the very next over as well but all it led to was more chaos and frustration for the Punjab skipper.

Glenn Maxwell had the ball in hand and on the second ball of the fourth over, he fired a ball down leg that slid past Head into Prabhsimran's gloves. There seemed to be a faint noise when the Kookaburra passed the batter and the bowler-keeper duo went up in instant appeal, only for the umpire Akshay Totre to immediately shake his head no. Nevertheless, Maxwell remained confident and immediately made a T with his hand to signal for a review, which the umpire took for gospel and went upstairs. Even though Shreyas wanted no different, the umpire's decision to not consult him over the decision was enough to anger the skipper as he seethed at the umpire, "Merese poocha kya? [Did you ask me?]" and minced no words.

After Iyer was done with his brief tirade, he did signal for the DRS himself and found out the ball had only clipped Head's trousers, meaning a review was lost but the wide was overturned. Twitterati though was only interested in what happened prior.
