AUS vs ENG | Twitter in disbelief as Labuschagne takes flight to silence Barmy Army with stunning catch

Catches win matches, they say, and Marnus Labuschagne helped Australia end England’s first innings in Brisbane with a stunning effort. Just as Jofra Archer came up with a pull shot, the Australian ran full tilt to his right, from square leg, before going airborne to finish an excellent catch.

‌England looked comfortable against Australia as they started off from their overnight score of 325/9 on day two of the second Test in Brisbane. Centurion Joe Root did not find the need to farm the strike, with his partner Jofra Archer looking confident in defence.

Archer even came up with a stunning cover drive off Mitchell Starc in the second over of the day before comfortably seeing off the veteran pacer. It looked like the pair would take England past the 350-run mark and to a commanding total, but Marnus Labuschagne had other plans.

With Brendan Doggett coming around the wicket and a packed leg side field, it was anybody’s guess what he was up to. But Archer did not bog down as he went for the pull shot on the second ball of the over. The placement was perfect as the ball was right between fine leg and square leg, though it was in the air.

But Labuschagne, who was stationed at deep square leg, showed excellent anticipation, sprinting seamlessly to his right. Just as it seemed that the ball would land short of him, the Australian went full airborne, with a perfect dive to pouch the ball before landing smoothly with his hands outstretched.

His extraordinary effort meant Archer was dismissed for 38, and the England innings ended at 334. Twitter was awestruck with Labuschagne’s effort, which fast-tracked the close of the visitors’ batting innings and silenced a cheerful Barmy Army.
