There has been no sign of my contract being renewed: Ashley Westwood
Bengaluru FC manager Ashley Westwood has confirmed that the I-League club is yet to offer him an extension to his current contract, which will expire in the next couple of months. The 39-year-old's future at the club has been up for speculation, following three defeats in their last five matches.
“I am uncertain, that’s the truth. My contract runs out at the end of May, there has been no sign of it being renewed,” Westwood was quoted as saying by Firstpost.
The former Manchester United graduate has already built a legacy with the newly-formed club by winning the I-League in their inaugural campaign, and then lifting the Federation Cup last season. However, the Blues have already lost three matches this season, and their performances have not been up to their usual standards.
Westwood also stressed on the uncertain future that he faces, along with all of Indian football, during this period of 'transition'.
"I couldn’t answer that question truthfully because I don’t know what’s coming. It is uncertain time for coaches; it is uncertain times for Indian football, because this is a transition period - that’s the word on everyone’s lips,” he added.
Bengaluru are currently second in the points table, but have played one match more than both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, and are likely to drop down to third spot by the end of the next gameweek. Their next game on the February 28, against lowly Aizawl FC at home.
