AIFF fines FC Goa 50 lakhs for ISL final incident
FC Goa's defeat in the Indian Super League final saw some undesirable actions by the FC Goa players and staff in the post match event. The AIFF disciplinary committee met on March 4th at the Football House in New Delhi and arrived at a unanimous decision to fine the club Rs 50 lakhs for dissent.
"FC Goa has been fined Rs. 50 lakhs (which is to be paid within 10 days) for not attending the post match Presentation Ceremony of the Hero ISL Final 2015.
Furthermore, Mr. Rajesh Malgi, Equipment Manager, FC Goa has been suspended for 4 matches of Hero ISL and also fined Rs. 1 lakh for using offensive gestures and abusive language against the Match Officials after the Final whistle of the Hero ISL Final 2015." the AIFF statement said.
FC Goa had lost the final back in December to Chennaiyin FC to a Steven Mendoza stoppage time winner following which there was a no-show at the post-match ceremony by the Goan side. FC Goa co-owner Dattaraj Salgaocar had publicly criticized the Indian Super League, even citing possible match fixing in the final. AIFF had previously criticized FC Goa for the same, saying it brought disrepute to the game and the league as a whole.
Following the decision, FC Goa have until the 13th of March to pay the hefty fine imposed on them.
