English manager Ashley Westwood has revealed that with four days left in his current contract, he is still in discussion with Bengaluru FC over a contract extension. The 39-year-old, who has won 2 I-League titles and a Fed Cup with the club, is confident that he has done his job properly.

"We're still talking, so let's see what happens. In the world of football, things don't always happen the way you want it to. I'm old and wise enough to understand this. There's only four days left in the contract, so we'll announce our decision soon," Westwood said, in an event held to celebrate BFC's I-League and the AFC Cup success at the PUMA Social Club, reported the Hindu.

Westwood said that it is important for him and the club to get on the same page in terms of their vision for the future of the club. "The contract negotiations are not about the finances. Both me and the club have to get on the same page. In the end, the club must move forward - that's of paramount importance. I'm thankful that we have been successful after I've arrived. I've done my job properly,” he said.

After lifting the I-League crown, Bengaluru FC have also reached the quarterfinal of the AFC Cup, after defeating Kitchee SC in the round-of-16 clash. However, with the quarterfinals scheduled to take place in September, Bengaluru run the risk of losing a lot of key players to the ISL franchises. The Blues are hoping to negotiate an agreement with the players and the ISL franchises in time for their AFC Cup fixture.

"We don't know what to expect - that's the truth. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. As a club, we're good at finding ways to overcome problems. In the past, we've missed players through injuries, suspensions, and national duties, but the club has always found a way to succeed," Westwood added.
