Ronaldo renews contract with Real Madrid to 2021
Cristiano Ronaldo will stay on with Real Madrid until 2021 after the Spanish giants announced that they would sign a five-year contract extension with the star Portuguese forward on Nov 7.
Ronaldo had earlier expressed his desire to end his career with Real Madrid, and the new deal would mean that the striker will stay at the Bernabeu until he’s 36 as he joins Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Lucas Vasquez to have extended their contact with the club.
“The official event for the renewal of Cristiano Ronaldo's contract will take place tomorrow, Monday 7 November at 1:30pm in the presidential box at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium,” the club said in a statement. “The Portuguese forward will extend his contract until 30 June 2021 at the event attended by club president Florentino Pérez and the player himself.”
Financial details of Ronaldo’s contract have not been announced yet. Welshman Bale is currently the highest paid player at the club.
"I'm happy because what he must do is finish his career here. Cristiano is unique. What he has done and what he will do. His only intention is to finish his career here,” coach Zinedine Zidane said. “I am happy because we can renew and he can finish with this white shirt as I did long ago."
