Reports | Lionel Messi set to make his return from injury for Barcelona
Barcelona finally have some good news, with captain Lionel Messi set to make his return from injury. But the club have also already lost Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez to various injuries, which does mean that the Argentine’s return should be the boost the club needs after their opening day defeat.
The opening day loss to Athletic Bilbao would have hurt a lot of Barcelona fans especially given the fact that the club are amongst the top contenders for the Champions League and the La Liga this season. With no Lionel Messi in the squad, it became evident how much the team depends on him but the Independent has reported that the captain is back in action for the club, with the Argentine recovering from a leg injury.
“It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for and it finally happened on Wednesday as Leo Messi was back training with his team-mates at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper,” read a statement on Barcelona’s website.
The Barcelona captain missed the opening day game and has been out since early August after he injured himself on his first day back for pre-season training. However, while Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez led the line for the opening day defeat to Bilbao, both Suarez and Dembele are now out with injuries themselves.
The Frenchman has been ruled out for at least five weeks, while Suarez injured himself in the opening day defeat and has been ruled out for at least the next ten days. Having Messi back now eases that burden and it's just the boost the club needs with the Independent reporting that the 32-year-old should be rushed back into the team.
