Joel Matip said that it feels great to be at Liverpool and is extremely happy to commit his future to the club until summer 2024. The central-defender has become one of the most trusted centre backs for Jurgen Klopp and playing over Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez alongside Virgil Van Dijk.

English news outlet the BBC has reported that Joel Matip’s splendid start to the new season has seen him earn a new deal. The Cameroonian defender has signed a brand new deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2024. Matip, who has already netted two goals in nine appearances this season, joined Liverpool from Schalke in 2016 on a free transfer and has since become a key star. The 28-year-old has progressed quickly and rapidly with injuries to other players allowing the former Bundesliga star a chance to shine.

It’s one that Matip took and the Cameroonian has since made a total of 82 appearances for Liverpool in the league and has registered 29 clean sheets.  The former Schalke star went on to admit that he feels great to be at Liverpool and is happy with the club’s progress. He even added that while the Reds do have a young and talented squad, it’s one that needs to keep winning to move forward.

“It's a great feeling to be a longer part of the club. It's really just a great feeling. From outside, you know Liverpool is such a big club - but when you are inside, then you really get a feeling for how big the club is in all the countries - the supporters are everywhere.  It's a massive and big club that I think every player would want to play for. We have a young and talented team and I think every one of us is hungry. Now we've seen how it is to win something and we want to have that feeling again,” said Matip to the BBC.

Joel Matip missed games against Leicester City and RB Salzburg before the international break due to injury and the 28-year-old has used the international break to recover from the injury he suffered and is expected to return to Liverpool’s starting line-up against Manchester United.
