Reports | Arsenal looking to sell Mesut Ozil in January
Premier League club Arsenal have decided to put Mesut Ozil on sale, as the club's patience has run out with Ozil and the German has struggled to live up to expectations. The former La Liga star moved to Arsenal for a fee of £42.5 million, initially doing well but has struggled under Unai Emery.
Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil is on his way out of the club, with the 30-year-old heavily linked with a move away from the club during the summer window but in the end no move materialized. The German star did relatively well under former manager Arsene Wenger but under new manager Unai Emery he has been a fraction of himself. His performances have dropped and once a fan favourite now spends most of the time on the bench.
His contract is set to expire in 2021 and Arsenal feel this is the right time to cash in on the player and acquire a significant fee for him. Calaciomercato reports that the German clearly doesn’t fit in Emery’s plans and has been dropped out of the starting line up. The report further adds that the owners at the club feel that Ozil isn’t justifying the monstrous £350,000 a week wages that are being paid to him, as he has failed to provide more than 2 assists in the last 25 Premier League games.
This comes in stark contrast to when he finished the season with 19 assists in the league in what should have been a title-winning campaign for the Gunners. But struggles elsewhere gave Leicester City a chance they took. Calciomercato further reports that clubs from China, Turkey and the United States are interested in the German midfielder. Inter were interested in him this summer but Ozil rejected the loan move.
Clubs across the Serie A are also interested in him but his poor form has been a concern. The 30-year-old player has made 233 Arsenal appearances and had become the lynchpin of the team in his initial few years at the club. The impressive partnership with Alexis Sanchez led him to a lucrative contract and many hoped he would turn into one of the finest legends at the club.
